Workshop on National Policies relevant to EOSC deployment

Strasbourg, France

EOSC Synergy, EOSC Pillar, ExPaNDS, NI4OS-Europe, EOSC Future, FAIRsFAIR, and EOSC-Nordic projects invite you to the in-person workshop “National Policies relevant to EOSC deployment – Status, gaps, and steps towards harmonisation” to be organised in Strasbourg, France on May 4th, 2022. During the workshop, we will present the findings of the regional EOSC projects on national open science, funding, and access provisioning policies.

As this is the first in-person workshop held in a while, we expect high interest. Places are limited, so please make sure to register in time. An option for remote participation is available, to be indicated at registration. The exact programme and speakers will be announced shortly on the event indico page, but please find below the overarching themes and sessions of this workshop:

Open Science/EOSC National Policies

This session focuses on presenting findings from the EOSC regional projects on the status of national Open Science Cloud and EOSC policies in the regions concerned; countries in the different areas have different approaches and are progressing at different paces. The workshop will discuss differences and gaps, with the view that these make the implementation more complicated; it will aim to increase understanding of the different policies/approaches, suggest recommendations and steps that can be taken to support a successful EOSC implementation and uptake.

Funding policies

This session focuses on presenting findings from the EOSC regional projects with respect to funding policies in the regions concerned. It will include presentations of successful business models and viable funding schemes at the institutional, national, regional, and international levels. It will address the shortage of coherent and stable funding policies, discuss differences and gaps, and suggest recommendations and steps that can be taken to foster better alignment of funding policies nationally and internationally.

Access Provisioning Policies

This session focuses on the presentation of findings from the EOSC regional projects with respect to access provisioning policies in the regions concerned. Specific aspects to be considered will be related to EuroHPC and cross-border resources provisioning, cross-border collaboration, and conditions for transnational access; however, access will also be considered in terms of sustainability, from the user point of view and the availability of skills and capacity building. The findings and recommendations will look at the applicable scope (national/cross-border) and the profile of service policies (how, where they are provided, to which users, and under which conditions) for access.
